He Taonga Nā Matāriki by Ironclad Co. Handmade Matāriki Heirloom
Each He Taonga Nā Matāriki is handmade in New Zealand from premium recycled iron, featuring Te Tēpu Whakapapa, The Family Table. A unique design by Tā Moko artist Jesse Esler.
He Taonga Nā Matāriki is a celebration of whakapapa, gathering together, and passing traditions forward. This is about celebrating the wisdom found in the stories told around the family table.
Matāriki is about remembrance, reflection, and renewal. This Heirloom honours the recipes and stories that nourished our tūpuna, and helps safeguard the stories and traditions of Matāriki for generations to come.
To honour Matāriki, Ironclad has gifted He Taonga Nā Matāriki to nine chefs. Each has been invited to share a recipe inspired by one of the nine stars, sharing their traditions, memories, and personal connections to the celebration.
Each Matāriki Heirloom comes with Ironclad’s Three Generation Guarantee®, ensuring this meaningful taonga will be cherished and passed down for generations. Carrying with it the stories and traditions of Matāriki. Forever.

The Design
Te Tēpu Whakapapa
“The Family Table” is a design by Tā Moko artist Jesse Esler. To the left sit three generations past. To the right, three generations yet to come. At the centre is us, caretakers entrusted with sharing inherited gifts and preparing the table for those who follow. Above is Matāriki, reminding us to look back, look forward, and look up. A promise cast in iron for generations we will never meet. A way to hold the recipes that nourished our tūpuna and safeguard the stories of Matāriki.
Te Tēpu Whakapapa
Ko Te Tēpu Whakapapa he hoahoa nā te tohunga Tā Moko, nā Jesse Esler. Kei te taha mauī ko ngā whakatipuranga e toru kua hori. Kei te taha matau ko ngā whakatipuranga e toru kei te heke mai. Kei waenganui ko tātou, ngā kaitiaki kua tukua mai ki a tātou ngā taonga hei manaaki, hei whakarite hoki i te tēpu mō ngā uri whakaheke. Kei runga ko Matāriki, hei whakamahara i a tātou kia hoki whakamuri, kia anga whakamua, kia titiro whakarunga. He oati tēnei kua whakarewaina ki te rino mō ngā whakatipuranga kāore anō kia tūtaki ki a tātou. Hei pupuri i ngā tohutao nā reira i whāngai ai i ō tātou tūpuna, hei tiaki hoki i ngā kōrero tuku iho mō Matāriki.
