At Ironclad, every pour is quality tested to ensure that our cast iron is pure enough to cook with. That might sound obvious, but it isn’t.
Over the years, we’ve tested lots of discount cast iron to understand how some manufacturers can sell a pan for the price it costs to ship one. What we found were ingredients we’d never want near our food.
In Australia and New Zealand, the cast iron industry remains unregulated, with no specific standards for "Food Grade Cast Iron." While we are working to change that, it’s currently up to each manufacturer to ensure their products are safe.
At Ironclad, we choose to meet the highest global standards for cookware, including the requirements set by California Proposition 65 and the FDA.

How to make a hand-me-down.
The Heirloom by Ironclad Pan Co. was inspired by cookware inherited by Kate and Levi Slavin—pieces that carried memories from generations of family meals and traditions. Built to be used forever and never thrown away.
This gift sparked the idea for a company that would challenge throwaway culture by creating heirlooms from scratch and providing tools to preserve their stories.
Five years on, each Heirloom is still made entirely by hand in New Zealand from recycled iron. Upon request, it is then engraved, triple seasoned, and packed in wooden crates, ready to create memories and be passed down through generations.

Your purchase not only nourishes your family but also helps feed a family in need. A portion of the profit from each Ironclad Cast Iron Pan sold goes to KiwiHarvest, a charity dedicated to rescuing surplus food and distributing it to people facing food insecurity.
At Ironclad, we challenge throwaway culture through the concept of 'generational shopping', creating products designed to last and stay out of landfill.
