PRODUCT FAQ
IRONCLAD GUARANTEE
Our handmade cast iron comes with our trademark Three Generation Guarantee® cast directly into the iron.
It is not a promotion. It is a promise.
A commitment to craft. To time. And to looking after things that matter.
This means should you, or your children, or your grandchildren ever have an issue with the craft or quality of our product, we will make it right.
If we no longer make your model, we will offer something equal in value and purpose.
If it is part of a set, we will replace the part that failed.
To claim, all you need is the product warranty.
And we have handily cast it into the base of every Ironclad Pan.
Just turn it over. Unless you are cooking in it. Then we suggest emptying it first.
The full Ironclad Three Generation Guarantee® can be read here.
If you are not a reader, we have made an audiowarranty, read by actor Sam Neill.
Make some memories,
The Ironclad Co.
Article I. Your Family Recipe Vault.
This contract outlines the Ironclad Pan Company's commitment to replace your Ironclad Cast Iron Cookware for three generations, or 100 years, from the date of purchase.
As it turns out, offering a genuine 100 year guarantee was almost as difficult as making a product that would last that long. But we’re proud to say we did it. And you’re holding it.
I. a) Will the cookware really last 100 years?
Yep. Our trademark design is the result of lots of love, lots of cooking, and some pretty punishing research. Our cookware has been engineered to survive 100 years of daily use (based on three meals per day, for three generations).
I. b) What if I lose the guarantee in the next 100 years?
We are so confident in the quality of every piece of Ironclad Cookware, we have cast the details of your three generation guarantee in iron. Check the underside. That’s just in case you lose this contract.
I. c) Is my cookware solid iron or ironclad?
It is 100% cast iron. ‘Ironclad’ is just a clever name we came up with that we now have to explain a lot. The high-grade iron was selected based on its weight and ability to age. With the right preparation, and some daily care, the T220 iron will change from a golden bronze, to a rich dark black. And become more uniquely receptive to your style of cooking.
Article II. Your Ironclad Pan.
To help collect and protect your family recipes, you have automatic access to a Family Recipe Vault. There is no obligation to use it, but it’s a handy way to share meals, recipes, and tips with your existing family, and the ones to come. Once you have set up your Family Recipe Vault, we will safely store your stories, videos, photos, cooking tips, and secret family recipes for the next generation. You can even publish a family cookbook directly from your Family Recipe Vault.
II. a) What happens to the data from my Family Recipe Vault?
All recipes stored will only be made available to the people you choose to share them with. We will not share your data without your permission. Any recipe you upload will be locked away unless you choose to make it public, or invite friends or family to access your Family Recipe Vault.
II. b) How many Family Recipe Vaults do I need?
We recommend one Family Recipe Vault for your entire extended family. Even if everyone in your family has their own Ironclad Pan—which would be tremendous—one Family Recipe Vault is ideal. It’s a great daily resource for meal planning, cooking tips, and go-to recipes. And, most importantly, it’s a great way for everyone in your family to collate and archive your entire culinary history for future generations.
II. c) Who pays for storing our Family Recipe Vault?
Every piece of Ironclad Cookware comes with three generations of paid storage. If your family has more than one Ironclad product, you can bundle your storage — up to 100 years per Family Recipe Vault. Essentially, it will always be free.
II. d) What happens to my Family Recipe Vault if Ironclad closes?
If, for whatever reason, The Ironclad Pan Company Ltd shuts its doors, storage will be covered for your Family Recipe Vault for the duration you have subscribed to. This will give you ample time to print your culinary family history into a cookbook, or transition to another storage provider.
II. e) What happens to my Family Recipe Vault if Google shuts down?
If, for whatever reason, Google, or their holding company Alphabet, shuts their doors, storage of your Family Recipe Vault will be transitioned to another storage provider.
Article III. Your Ironclad guarantee.
When you receive your Ironclad Cookware, you can activate your Ironclad Three Generation Guarantee® online. You will be asked to input your unique product number and some contact details. This number is all you, or your grandchildren, or your great-great grandchildren, will ever need to fulfill the guarantee. So if, through no fault of your own, your Ironclad Cookware should warp, crack, or lose its integrity in any way, The Ironclad Pan Company LTD will replace your pan for up to 100 years from the date of purchase.
III. a) Is this three generation guarantee thing for real?
Yep. Most companies will only honour their guarantees for the lifetime of the company. But since our unique guarantee extends beyond our own lifetimes, we have investigated how to fulfill your guarantee for 100 years. Read on, dear reader.
III. b) What happens to my Ironclad Guarantee if The Ironclad Pan Company LTD sells?
Should any of the founders decide to sell The Ironclad Pan Company LTD, our contract with the purchasers will be dependent upon the new owners honouring all existing customer guarantees. Once agreed, you will be notified of the sale and will receive any new contact information required to fulfill your guarantee.
III. c) What happens to my Ironclad Guarantee if The Ironclad Pan Company LTD closes?
Although production would stop, your Three Generation Guarantee® would remain. Should a guarantee be redeemed after the life of The Ironclad Pan Company LTD, a replacement product from our storage unit at the foundry would still be available. If no stock remains, a refund will be arranged by a guardian appointed prior to closure.
III. d) What happens to my Ironclad Guarantee if the foundry closes??
While our foundries have been leading manufacturers for 100+ years, things change. Should The Ironclad Pan Company LTD still exist, but the foundry not be in business we will appoint a new foundry to manufacture Ironclad Cookware. If, both The Ironclad Pan Company LTD and our partner foundries no longer exist, your guarantee will be facilitated by an appointed guardian. This guardian will take over both the claim and redemption of your guarantee.
III. e) What is an eligible claim?
Cast iron is one of the most durable and reliable ingredients for cookware. It can withstand decades and decades of standard daily use. Standard daily use, for the purposes of this guarantee, includes all cooking activities where the user is using the pan for its intended purpose — to prepare a meal in an oven, on a stove top, barbeque or small campfire. Basically, we’ll cover you if you drop it during cooking, but not if you drop it off a building. We’ll cover you if your cookware cracks or warps in a standard kitchen oven, not if you drop it into a volcano. If you have any further queries about what constitutes ‘standard daily use’, or have found an active volcano and no longer know what to throw into it, contact us at hello@ironcladpan.com.
III. f) How will my great-great grandchildren know about the guarantee?
If you forget to tell them about the guarantee during your long and happy life, we have cast the details of our guarantee in the bottom of the cookware. So whoever you leave your Ironclad heirloom to, will see it.
III. g) How will my great-great grandchildren contact you if the internet doesn’t exist in the future?
hello@ironcladpan.com will remain in use until future generations update how people communicate. When those platforms are implemented, we will notify you of our new details via your Family Recipe Vault or the email we have on file.
III. h) Will you share my contact information?
No. The contact information you share with us is securely stored and can be accessed, removed, or updated by you at any time. This information will only be used in the very unlikely event that your cookware is no longer functional. We will track down the date of purchase to help you, or your descendants, get a replacement or refund.
III. i) Can I get a refund if future humans no longer cook with pans?
No. In the event that civilisation has evolved beyond using cast iron to prepare delicious meals, this will not, unfortunately, qualify as grounds for a refund. In this event, our recommendation is to put your Ironclad Cookware into storage. As humanity will eventually grow tired of roast beef capsules and virtual reality desserts and return to more traditional cooking methods. Then you can pull out your Ironclad Cookware and be all like, “Hey, I’ve got an idea!”
III. j) How will my descendants get a refund if future humans no longer use money?
In the event that humans have stopped using money, we will refund you in whatever currency future humans are using. If, for example, future civilisations are using hugs, you, or your descendants, would be paid in hugs — minus standard inflation rates from the date of purchase.
Right, that’s enough legal stuff from us. It’s time to grab your Ironclad Cookware and make some memories.
Enjoy.

What's the difference between an enamelled pan and a cast iron pan?
Our Legacy collection is handcrafted to last multiple lifetimes. Our new enamelled collection has a lifetime warranty and comes in a range of colours.
- Enamelled: Think all the benefits of cooking with cast iron, made easy, in the colour of your choice. A workhorse for everyday cooking.
- Legacy: Our meticulous Antique Finish™ gives it a ceramic-smooth touch and non-stick performance you wouldn't believe. Each one takes hours of hand-polishing, resulting in a pan so beautiful it's practically a work of art.
Ironclad seems like an investment. Will it pay off?
Absolutely! An average non-stick pan should be replaced annually - which adds up pretty quickly. Our Legacy Collection is guaranteed for three generations and will only get better with more use and proper care. Our satin enamel collection will last a lifetime or more. It's not just good for your tastebuds, it's good for your wallet too. Pay a bit more upfront for a much better deal long term.
Food-grade cast iron? What's the deal?
Think of your cookware like an ingredient—you want the best quality for your food. There are four types of cast iron, but only grey cast iron is ideal for cookware. At Ironclad, we test every pour for purity and we use only food-safe grey cast iron. Unlike some brands that opt for cheaper, lower-grade iron. Always check with your cookware maker about their materials—they owe you that transparency.
What happens if my Ironclad rusts?
A bit of surface rust is normal for cast iron, especially if it's been drip-drying or not used regularly. It's easily fixed. A good scrub with soap and steel wool and a wipe with an oiled cloth should get you going again. If in doubt, re-season it like new—see our Use & Care page for an easy walk through. If that's too hard, we're always here to help. Just get in touch at hello@ironcladpan.com
Will my Ironclad work on my induction stove top?
Definitely! Just remember, low and slow is the way to go, especially at first. Too much heat too fast can warp the iron. We recommend matching the induction hob size to fit the pan and putting it on low for a minute before cranking. Since cast iron retains heat incredibly well, watch it doesn’t get too hot.
Can I really use my Ironclad cast iron on any heat source?
Yes! Our cast iron loves induction, gas, electric, BBQ, even campfire. Our satin enamel cast iron has a max temp of 300°, for cooking at temperatures above that then we recommend our seasoned cast iron.
What causes cast iron to warp?
Usually, it's from using a burner that's too small for the base of the pan, or cranking up the heat too quickly. This creates a hotspot that makes the iron expand unevenly. Minor warping often fixes itself as the pan cools. If it's bad, though, it might not go back to perfectly flat.
What is the warranty on your enamel cookware?
As long as you follow our use and care instructions your Ironclad enamel cookware should last a lifetime. Manufacturing faults will be covered. Anything like uneven enamel coating or cracks would be apparent soon after your first use - and we can replace the product straight away. Normal wear and tear - minor scratches, small chips and some exterior staining may occur and won’t be covered, or affect the performance of the product.
What is the warranty on your seasoned cast iron cookware?
Our seasoned cast iron pans are covered by the Ironclad Three Generation Guarantee®. Cast into the base, it is the longest legally binding product warranty on earth. A warranty to last your lifetime, your children’s, and your grandchildren’s.
Where are Ironclad products made?
Originally we only made one size pan in NZ. As we grew, we had to seek out more specialist suppliers with a history of making cookware. So we spoke to foundries across NZ, Australia, Vietnam, India, Fiji and multiple places in China. Narrowing it down, we independently quality tested samples and now work with two foundries in Hebei, where cast iron cookware originated from around 2,600 years ago. Our co-founder Kate regularly visits the makers to work with them on how to achieve the finishes we require and maintain the high standard of quality Ironclad is known for.
Both our partners meet the highest quality international standards - satisfying the food-grade testing requirements of LFGB*, FDA, California Proposition 65**. Ironclad also independently tested the products locally in NZ.
We still test and do short run batches with our foundry partner in New Zealand.
Most of our other products are made in either New Zealand or Australia by local woodworkers, metal polishers, balm makers and box makers.
*LFBG is the German abbreviation for the Food and Commodities Act. It is short for Lebensmittel- und Futtermittelgesetzbuch, which is considered the most important food safety management act for Germany. All the food-related products are required to pass the corresponding tests and be compliant with LFGB in order to enter the German market.
**Prop 65 means that it is certified free from over 800 problematic compounds. And FDA approved - safe for cookware.
How do you cook using enamelled cast iron?
Our enamelled cast iron range is compatible with all heat sources; induction, gas, electric, ceramic, barbecue, oven, fire. Just no microwaves please. And avoid temperatures over 300°C. Use your preferred oil or butter and ideally wooden or silicone utensils to avoid scratching the surface. Avoid extreme changes in temperature - like regular cast iron, enamelled cast iron is best when warmed up gradually and allowed to cool naturally. It will retain the heat beautifully and is perfect for serving hot to the table. Always protect your hands from hot handles and use a trivet to protect tables or benchtops.
Do you need to season an enamelled cast iron pan first?
No. It’s ready to go straight out of the box. We recommend washing with mild soap and a soft cloth or brush prior to your first use.
Do the lid and handles get hot?
Yes. The handles on the pan and lid are made from cast iron, so will heat up. Use a tea towel, oven mitt or leather pan snug to protect your hands.
Is cast iron non-stick?
Yes. And it should only get better with more use and proper care. Ensure you bring your pan up to heat before adding food. And use your chosen oil or butter when cooking.
Are pinholes in the cast iron surface normal?
Yes. Cast iron cookware is made using a sand moulding process and the iron itself is a natural material with variations outside of our control. Minor imperfections or small pinholes may appear on the surface but will in no way affect the performance of your Ironclad cookware. These should also diminish over time with proper use and care as the seasoning develops.
Are pinholes in the enamelled surface normal?
Although we endeavour to ensure there are none, minor pinholes or dimples can appear on the surface of the enamel finish. Each product goes through our quality control process, so if you do come across imperfections they should not affect the integrity of your cookware. However, if you are concerned about anything please reach out to us at hello@ironcladpan.com with any questions.
How do you clean cast iron?
Check the instructions that came in the box. Or our use and care page here. It depends how messy you get - and can range from simply wiping out with a dry paper towel, to boiling water for easy removal of sticky bits. If you want to use a mild dishsoap - go ahead. The key is to keep your cast iron dry and lightly oiled between uses. Don’t drip dry. The more you use it, the better it gets.
What is seasoning?
Seasoning is your cast iron’s natural layer of carbonised oil. It builds up gradually with more use and is baked onto the surface - giving it a rich dark patina. Ironclad cookware comes pre-seasoned with vegetable oil for you, so it’s ready to go and will only get better with more use and proper care.
Why is my food sticking sometimes?
This can happen for a few different reasons, such as not bringing the pan up to heat before adding the food, or not using enough oil or butter when cooking. Some saucy, acidic or sweet things will stick - just make sure you clean out the pan afterward - boiling water to remove and reset the pan is a good trick. Scrub, dry thoroughly and then keep lightly oiled.
Do acidic foods ruin the seasoning?
No, they won’t ruin it. Cast iron is pretty indestructible. But wine, tomatoes, vinegar and citrus can eat into the natural seasoning layer. A few tips - when cooking something acidic remove it from the pan once finished and clean straight away. Dry and re-oil. If you do find the seasoning has been removed in places, then once clean and oiled you can re-bake in a hot oven to add a layer of seasoning back on there. Keep cooking and your seasoning will develop again. Roasting vege in between stove top uses is a good way to ensure you maintain a beautiful patina.

LIFETIME SUPPORT
We stand by our products for the long haul. For advice, help, or support, our team is here to help—always.

Every pour is quality tested to ensure that our cast iron is pure enough to cook with.
In Australia and New Zealand, the cast iron industry remains unregulated, with no specific standards for "Food Grade Cast Iron." While we are working to change that, it’s currently up to each manufacturer to ensure their products are safe. At Ironclad, we choose to meet the highest global standards for cookware, including the requirements set by California Proposition 65 and the FDA.

Handcrafted with the same care & quality that has defined cast iron cookware.
Inspired by vintage cast iron pieces from the 1800s, our signature finishing techniques create an elegantly smooth surface that feels almost like ceramic. By carefully grinding and polishing the cooking surface and base, we can create cast iron that is both naturally non-stick and gentle enough for even the most delicate cooktops, including induction.

With every Heirloom pan, you receive lifetime access the Ironclad Vault.
The Ironclad Vault is a secure digital platform that stores your Ironclad Guarantee alongside your family’s most treasured recipes. As part of a thoughtful gift, the Ironclad Vault can also be preloaded with recipes and messages from friends and family. For weddings, anniversaries, or milestone moments.

Your purchase not only nourishes your family, it also helps feed a family in need.
A portion of the profit from each Ironclad Cast Iron Pan sold goes to KiwiHarvest, a charity dedicated to rescuing surplus food and distributing it to people facing food insecurity. At Ironclad, we challenge throwaway culture through the concept of 'generational shopping', creating products that last and stay out of landfill.
